I've worked 19 years in the printing industry, 7 years in pharmaceutical research
and development and 18 years as a professional musician. I'm in my 40s, married
with a daughter in high school. I love music. I play the sax professionally and
with the Chicago State University band. I also produce a biblical program for CAN-TV.
The early morning work hours at UPS are challenging; however, being a musician has
prepared me for that. It requires discipline. But education is important. That helps
me get up in the morning.
This is not a cakewalk. You have to understand that going in. But it's worth the
challenge. The CRCP allows me to return to school without taking out loans; plus,
I'm able to work a part-time job with benefits. I'm goal-oriented. If a degree is
important, what better program can you be in? Work now. No loans later! You have
to have discipline for study time vs. work/life balance. My mindset is not on the
day-to-day grind, but on the prize at the end.
My goals with the CRCP are to finish my BA in performance at CSU. Then, I want to
earn Master's and Doctorate degrees. Eventually I'd like to write my autobiography
focusing on my spiritual and musical journey all while pursuing a career at UPS.
