I have been a baker, dock worker, mail carrier and school bus driver. I'm a licensed
CNA and pharmaceutical technician and a certified phlebotomist, which I do part-time.
I'm excited about being a college student, but I want to get out there and do what
I know. I am working toward a bachelor's degree in nursing from Chicago State University.
My career is all about nursing and caring for people.
I'm impressed by the professionalism of the CSU staff. I like the college atmosphere.
I'm thirty-something and I'm like a college kid. It makes me feel young, knowing
I can do it. The CRCP allows me to have a secure way to afford a college education.
I've already made so much progress. I dropped out of high school at 16 then earned
my GED at 18. I'm proud of that! I'm a single mother and my 14-year-old son is very
proud of me and how hard I work and apply myself. We both have homework, work together
to get it done and celebrate our achievements together.
It's challenging working the night sort while attending college. You definitely
have to stay focused. You have to want it! I had to make a lot of adjustments and
I had to sacrifice a lot of things.
I'm successful because I believe in myself and the CRCP. I earned a 4.0 my first
semester at CSU; I've earned 100 credits in 3 years. I've completed my minor in
psychology. Now I plan to pursue a minor in foreign language then obtain a Master's
Degree at CSU so I can teach nursing.
